Any Drag Racers Here?

Postby sheenaramone on Sat Aug 16, 2008 1:43 pm

I have been racing my 2008 V6 Mustang most of this summer. I was only going to try it one time and got addicted.

I have an automatic. I was watching a Mustang GT race last night and he jerked with every shift. Should that happen? I'd like to trade for a GT with a manual transmission next year but I am a little worried about hurting the car and embarrassing myself on the street and at the track. Please tell me it's not a big deal to drive a manual transmission and that I'll be able to figure out the correct shifting for performance vs. street driving.

shifting is totally simple!! All it takes is practice. and you'll have it in no time! the jerking is a result of the car's power. my GT does it when i wait to shift until the high rpm range near the red line. In my opinion, cars are much more fun to drive with manuals, however i didn notice my ability to corner decreased some because I had to spilt my attention a little in order to shift...other than that, it's a BLAST!

It definitley is easy, when I bought my first manual it took me about a week and half to get it down decent..for street driving. Take a little time to really get it down before you go to the track though. You really don't have to worry about messing it up, you are definitely going to miss some shifts but it happens to everyone. I say go for it..I love driving manuals it's all I will buy now, you feel much more connected to the car.
It's just another slow pony, I swear!

my mustang is the first stick i sat in in the driver's seat... let alone drove. i only stalled once on the way home from the dealer and had the shifting down in under a week. i will never go back to an automatic. its just way too much fun driving a stick :D
