Synthetic motor oils may cost you more, but you will get more miles between oil changes.

Does no one else have any opinion on how to get more miles out of your car or the type of oil to use?

I just use whatever I can find in my garage! I can't remember the last time I bought oil myself

Both of my cars use, and used 5-20 motor oil. Due to the tight tolarances of the 4.6, and 3.8 engines, it is recomended, that this viscosity is used. This will allow all points of contacts, to be lubricated. Use of heaver oils, will cause premature wear on you engine. Synthetic oil, I use a full synthetic. Change oil once a year, filter change twice a year. 5W-20, it must be said, the W doesn't mean weight, it's the winter rating.

'Why' do you get more out of it, is my question. I always like to know how something works before I make a switch, lol.

viscosity breakdown, can be contolled in an synthetic product. While in a product that comes from nature, that can vary from tank to tank. I have had some Diesel mechanics tell me that Delo 400, is good for 115000 miles. I would not use it in a Mustang though, It's to heavy.

Thanks so much for this information. But I have one really important question. You put that you change your oil only once a year. You are kidding right?

Not kidding. Full synthetic 5-20 once a year. Two filters a year. One at oil change, another 6 months later. Its been 11 months since my last oil change, and its still clear, about the same color as ice tea. I drive it about 14000 miles a year. FYI- The oil companies have brain washed us Americans. It is fucken stupid to change oil at 3000 miles.

I don’t really care what type of oil I put on my car. As long as it is running then I’m happy.
