OE - Original Equipment

Postby mtrent on Thu May 22, 2008 9:24 pm

Always ask for OE - original equipment - brake pads or at least the equivalent material.

Do not be fooled by a $49.95 brake job!
You will usually get the worst friction material you can by. This is the difference between stopping short and causing a major pileup on your way home from work.

On certain parts it certainly pays to purchase a higher quality especially like brakes.

the slotted rotors wont be felt under normal driving conditions. What they will do is to allow you to feel, and use your brakes. When your standard rotors would be cooking the friction material, and boiling your brake fluid, then you wouldn't be feeling much brake at all.

I always buy pattern parts if I can get away with it. I figure that I can use the money saved elsewhere & I don't use the car on the track.

I think that it is better to get the original when it comes to brake pads because it could mean life and death. Don’t experiment on your life.

I've advised people of this before. If you aren't racing or driving like a maniac, you won't feel the benefits of aftermarket rotors. Calipers yes, but rotors are really only upgraded for high speed stops. It's easy to heat up the stock ones slowing from 100+ down to 50mph.

However, one advantage of having them is long downhills. You should never ride your brakes down a hill, but if you are forced into using them a lot down a really long slope, they will help a lot. Bald Peak in Hillsboro being a prime example, I heat up my pads every time I go down that hill on the laurelwood side. So there are some benefits. If you drive like a normal person on the street, they wont help much.
