Anyone use molasses?

Postby Green-Moo on Mon May 26, 2008 3:36 am

I've heard you can use molasses to help clean rusty stuff. I assume you soak the part in a dilution. Anyone know for sure?

From Wikipedia - "Because of its unusual properties, molasses has several uses beyond that of a straightforward food additive. It can be used as a chelating agent to remove rust, as the base material for fermentation into rum, as the carbon source for in situ remediation of chlorinated hydrocarbons, and it can even be mixed with sand to make mortar for brickwork."

So it can be done, I just don't know how.

that may be true....but with the saying "slow as molases" you gotta wonder how long you'd have to wait before it was all clean?

I have heard of it before but I don’t have any experience on using them so far. I think that they are used for cleaning those glasses.
