squeely noises!

Postby josiahes on Sat Aug 02, 2008 3:47 pm

Hey guys, recently I've been getting this noise that sounds like a worn out bearing or something when I drive down the road...usually around 2k rpms or so and only under acceleration in 1st 2nd and 3rd, I'm not sure about 4th or 5th because the road noise is generally to loud to hear it. the sound sounds kinda like squeaky brakes and when I let off accelerating, the sound stops immediately!? any advice would ber great! maybe an idea where to start lookings or a quick lube job? anything!!! this noise is horrible!

does it go away when you push in the clutch? If so, that sounds like a throwout bearing. Lets narrow this down!

With engine running; put into neutral, or park: set parking brake: pop hood: Throttle up at throttle body: listen for where sound comes from. Goose it a few times hard if it helps.

yeah, thats a good point. Generally the throwout bearing wont go away when you let off the throttle, it will squeal even at idle. Often times it can be an A/C clutch, or alternator/waterpump bearings. Most likely it's going to come from something in the front on the serpentine system.
